week 15, day 1 - 14 April

section 1 :
·      appeasement – allowing Hitler to continue his plans to take back Germany’s lost lands after the TOV
·      liebensraum – living space regaining the lands that were lost after the TOV (Hitler’s strategy). bring German people who are lost back home
o   the Polish corridor is a problem, Sudetenland is a problem, the Ruhr is a problem, the Rhine is a problem, the Saar is a problem. people who still live in Germany’s countries are treated as minors (treated badly)
·      anshluss – annexation of Austria.
o   both Austria and Germany are “friends”. bringing Austria and Germany into one country was the plan
·      volksgemeinschaft – ‘strength in joy’
o   volks :  people
o   schaft :  people’s community
·      Germany had to pay these war reparations when they didn’t even start it and they had no industries or any source of money.
·      hyperinflation

·      everyone must help themselves. no division of classes. everybody’s going to have to work, to produce something to make this economy work.

o   led Germany throughout the world war 2
·      Rearmeanent
o   equip with better weapons
o   ww1 rearmament began at the time of the Weimar republic
o   it began as soon as the treaty was signed
o   hitler made 30,000 troops, and built some warships and several thousand guns
·      british rearmament
o   they didn’t do anything to stop Germany’s rearmament
o   their army was supplied with modern tanks and weapons
o   the rearmament also led to the royal navy
·      Rhineland
o   Hitler’s first illegal act
§  remilitarization of the Rhineland by the German
§  directly against the TOV



section 3 : 
“Was the Treaty of Versailles a Mistake? Part ii” after the incident of the first world war and Hitler’s rise in Germany.
