bloom's taxonomy

First of all, the bloom taxonomy is a classification of learning objectives within education proposed in 1956 by a committee of educators chaired by Benjamin Bloom, who also edited the first volume of the standard text, Taxonomy of educational objectives: the classification of educational goals. Although named after Bloom, the publication followed a series of conferences from 1949 to 1953, which were designed to improve communication between educators on the design of curricula and examinations. In addition, this could be helpful in stimulating research on examining and on the relations between examining and education. After considerable discussion, there was agreement that such a theoretical framework might best be obtained through a system of classifying the goals of the educational process, since educational objectives provide the basis for building curricula and tests and represent the starting point for much of our educational research.

The priorities set by the bloom taxonomy are as below:

As we see from the triangle above, creating is the first top priorities in the triangle. This means that the biggest part of the priorities set by the bloom taxonomy is on the creating, because it means that the students must create something not just by remembering or memorizing the materials and put it on a paper test to study. Students are needed and required to dig their knowledge and create something new for them to actually learn. Second is evaluating, this means that we need to make an amount of idea from the topic itself. Analyzing means that we need to analyze about the topic, think further. Analyzing might be useful for us because in the test, when we don’t understand questions, we need to analyze the questions well and think harder to obtain the answer. Applying were also important because we could apply some knowledge from our self to the topic that were given, we could share some knowledge and opinions. However, understanding the topics given at class is not a big deal. We, students just need to read and make sure we understand it well.

The lowest part of the priorities set by the bloom taxonomy is on the remembering because it’s not really useful and helpful to remember things than understanding the topics. Remembering things might lead us to forget the information that we had memorized.
